Permission to speak candidly?
I hope I don't give away too many of our secrets here, but in some ways I don't mind if I do. For the last year I've had the unique and enchanting privilege of being the tester of my wife's soaps, candles and bath elixirs, as well as dozens of her other curious concoctions. It seems I am somehow useful because I represent the average person who has no idea of what to make of scented soy candles and cold processed bath products, but this has only been one of my commitments to Earth Berry's process.
While it appears as if there are only a handful of candles available at the moment, her collection is growing steadily. The reason for this slow, thoughtful growth is that each of her products is created with something very special and that reason is intention. To anybody like me or my closest friends, we share a love for the ways of nature. We know that rivers flow the way the Earth allows them to and we listen to the trees. To us, giving someone a plant is like praying for them. We talk loudly to waves and we feel at least somewhat guilty when we move stones at the water's edge. Most importantly, we know that there is a balance to all things as nature intended.
As humans, we sometimes feel like we have become disconnected from nature. Being born during a time when mankind has already claimed such a shockingly powerful grasp of our planet's resources, some of us have come to feel the fogginess of that disconnect and we forget that we are also part of nature. The secret for us to reconnect is trough intention.
Intention is the keyword to any conversation about witchy ways and that is just what Earth Berry has put into her creations. It's my job to sit back and take a hot bath while staring into an unreleased candle that is not yet available to the public. My task is to put intention into the flame and tell a story to myself. The blurry flame in this spontaneous photo is of Forest Spirit, a product which is currently getting a makeover of its label. I stared into this candle for a long time and put all of my intention into finding a portal through this ghostly world which my mind had found itself consumed by. The trees seemed to be visible only through their silhouettes and colorful green beady eyes seemed to show themselves in the shadows. It felt good. It felt like a nighttime walk down a forest path with only a lantern as your guide.
This is the magical intention which is put into every one of Earth Berry Apothecary's creations and truthfully, you will not find it hard to invoke the spirit as well. I wish you magic and love and I hope your path hasn't made you forget that your are made of the planet which you come from and perhaps it is time to meditate on our many connections to nature.
